Popular designer jeans brands
Thursday, January 31st, 2008The evisu or evisu genes is a Japanese clothing company that specializes in producing premium denim wear through traditional, labor-intensive methods. It was founded in 1998 in Osaka, Japan by Hidehiko Yamane a Japanese clothes designer, and the man behind the popular clothing brand evisu clothing line. The evisu brand was originally called Evis which is the name of the Buddhist god of prosperity, but was eventually changed to what we all know today as the evisu genes.
The evisu clothing line is distinguishable by its unique design of logo. The logo of the evisu may look like clouds, but the evisu logo is actually a stylized seagull, and is still hand-painted onto some styles of jeans. The evisu clothing line makes extensive use of heavy, premium-quality selvedge denim, produced on 29-inch wide vintage looms.
Because of the growing popularity of the evisu jeans, Yamane have decided on expanding the brand. And in addition to jeans, the evisu clothing line also makes some evisu t-shirts, evisu sweatshirts, evisu jackets, evisu shoes, and evisu accessories.
Like any other famous clothing lines, the evisu clothing lines have also suffered some scandals and allegations. In March, 2006, the evisu clothing line and Yamane was reported to Tokyo District Public Prosecutor’s Office along with another firm on suspicion of tax evasion. Yamane and the two firms stand accused of concealing more than 500 million yen of income as well as evading some 160 million yen in taxes over three years.

With the possibilities that mobile phones aimed at fashion-conscious consumers can offer, it’s no wonder that this part of the market has attracted more & more attention lately. The most popular designated fashion-phones of late have been the Nokia Sirocco series, but what it made up for in style it lost severely in terms of features.
Samsung are trying to be one of the first to attempt to come up with a credible fashion-phone that doesn’t sacrifice features for appearances with the launch of the P520 Armani.
A body constructed from brass-coloured metal ensures that at least in the looks department, the Armani ticks all the right boxes. Making it an even more appealing prospect is the quality of materials used in the body-shell, as the P520 Armani seems able to cope with finger prints easier than the majority of recent handsets, which is a very welcome surprise.
On the front of the handset you have the domineering 2.6 screen; two call buttons; the speaker and…..that’s it. Obviously a large amount of paraphernalia on the front isn’t needed as you’ve got a large touch screen, but the hard controls have been limited to keep from spoiling the sleek design.
Considering the features packed in, the dimensions of the P520 make it an extremely compact device. Thickness has been limited to 10.5mm which is actually incredible, considering that this is a upper-mid-range handset measuring only 87.5 mm x 54.5 mm in height and width and 85g in weight, but then again Samsung are the masters when it comes to thin mobile phones, so perhaps this shouldn’t be as much of a surprise.
As well as the previously mentioned full-touchscreen display, you also get a 3.2MP camera, 60MB of internal memory and an SD memory card slot. Although this may not sound ground breaking in normal handsets, in a fashion phone this is positively futuristic.
Samsungs new Croix-UI has won a lot of plaudits since being seen in the F700 and deservedly so, so you would expect for it to be just as good, perhaps better, in what will likely be a more expensive device – WRONG! Though the UI itself is very good the speed is atrocious. So much so that it reminded me a little of Samsung’s own E900 on the basis that actions seemed to register long after a key was pressed. Basically the insufficient processor used on the P520 Armani means a lot of “thinking time” is required.
The 3.2MP camera module fitted to the P520 isn’t necessarily going to be an industry leader, but it is a good all-round performer, especially when you consider that it lacks autofocus though does come with an LED flash, which helps to produce image results on a par with the Sony Ericsson W890i.
With the P520 Armani, Samsung have come up with a device that is better specified than any other mobile phone masquerading as a fashion accessory and covers all the bases required for this niche, namely looks and exclusivity.
Again, the real let-down is in the UI, which is clearly far too demanding for the P520’s lacklustre processor to handle, which makes actually using the phone rather than just looking at it a painfully slow experience.
Another deciding factor for many will be the price which is comparable to a lot of high-end smartphones such as the HTC TYTN. For the same price as the P520 Armani, you can easily get hold of a much better phone with better all-round capabilities, but saying that the Armani phone isn’t a purchase to be made logically, it’s expense will only add to the aura of exclusivity surrounding it, so it will surely find its own market niche with ease, you’d just better not be in a hurry.
There are a variety of brand names in the designer jeans sector. In general terms buying jeans here will be down to the brands that people like or aspire to and the style they want to wear. Diesel and Evisu jeans, for example, have established a strong market amongst younger shoppers whilst the Armani Jeans brand name appeals to all ages and offers classic styles with a designer look and feel. Lambretta jeans often prove popular with people looking for a certain ’street’ look.
Considerations to make when buying a pair of designer jeans
Some people like to stick with a tried and tested brand of jeans whilst others buy based on the style, design and look and therefore may not be that concerned by buying from one brand name. As well as having a lot of designers to choose from, shoppers also have to decide on other factors such as style, colour and materials.
For example, some people only like to wear button fly jeans whilst others like to have a zip. Some prefer a bootleg cut, some prefer a comfort fit whilst others like a straight leg or a slim fit. A lot of the decisions to be made will be down to personal preference although body shape obviously plays a part — some jeans brands simply don’t seem to look good on certain body shapes whilst others will fit just fine.
There is also a lot of choice when it comes for materials and looks. Colours with jeans range from black down to dark blue and then to light denim. Some jeans are distressed, some are stone-washed, some are faded and some are pre-treated to give a ‘dirty’ look. It is possible to create two completely different looks with two different pairs of jeans — one pair can make the wearer look smart-casual whilst another can make them look completely casual.
Getting the right quality and fit with designer jeans
With most designer jeans being more expensive than standard jeans it is important to think about issues such as quality before buying a pair. Luckily, quality is generally of a high level here — designers rarely put their names to poor quality materials and workmanship.
Buying jeans online is a popular way of getting hold of designer jeans at favourable prices but this can make it harder to ascertain fit. Some will use the high street as a glorified fitting room, trying on a pair before whizzing home to buy online at a discount. In practice, it is worth taking some time to research the jeans before you buy them to get it right. For example, take some time to read up on the detailing on the jeans. A good e-tailer will also list all of the measurements. It’s important to pay attention to these measurements as they will help ensure the perfect fit.
Remember that perhaps the easiest way in which to check the measurements is to compare them with the measurements of a pair of jeans that you currently own. This will show you how the jeans will potentially fit. Of course, if you are buying jeans from a favourite brand then you will already probably have a good idea as to how well they will fit.
Conclusion
The key factor to consider is how good the jeans feel when wearing them. Jeans should be comfortable to wear — if they are not comfortable then they will rapidly find their way into that dark, dusty section of your wardrobe! With so many choices on offer here, however, there is almost certainly a pair of designer jeans to suit.
