The Unique Baby Shower - A Different Sort of Baby Shower

August 12th, 2008 by creativewriting

There is plenty of room for personal expression in the choices you make when trying to host a unique baby shower.  Centering the shower on a particular baby shower theme, interesting baby shower games, baby favors, or baby shower decorations can result in a wonderful experience for the new mother and the guests.

The Theme Method

Finding out something about the new mother’s family traditions could help set the tone for a unique baby shower theme. Discovering a piece of the new mother’s past could provide the inspiration for a theme. Perhaps one of the grandmothers has a special family heirloom they would like to see passed down. A whole new tradition could begin by centering the theme around the heirloom.

Is the mommy-to-be a collector?  You might consider using a baby shower theme that incorporates her favorite collectible.  Be creative.  Perhaps Beanie Babies are her thing or she collects figurines.  She may love a type of animal.  You might want to use the idea of the new mother’s interest as a baby shower decoration, design a specialty cake, or build a table centerpiece in the shape of her favorite hobby.

Playing Games

The choice of baby shower games can also help you to host a unique baby shower.  Everyone loves prizes, and it is nice if all the guests can go home with something.  Find plenty of games for laughs, and include the theme in how the games are played out. If the new mother loves horses, is there a game that could be adapted to include the animal?

Another idea for a unique baby shower is to include personalized games, like the baby shower game called Baby Mad Lib.  Write a story about the mom-to-be or the baby.  Omit some of the words with a blank space.  Mark the blank space with words like “noun”, “verb”, “adjective” etc.  Instruct the guests to fill in the blanks with the right type of word, and then have everyone read their story aloud.  All the stories are sure to be different resulting in a unique baby shower experience.

The Décor

The unique baby shower is an inch away from achievement when you consider all the choices a hostess for baby shower decorations.  You don’t have to settle for just the traditional any longer.  Keeping it simple is best, but if you want a unique baby shower, dress up a few areas of the house or yard.  Consider a canopy made out of streamers and balloons draping the gift area or the dessert table.  Use scented candles to create a mood.  Play the mother’s favorite music.

All the effort to host a unique baby shower will not go unnoticed by the guest of honor.  The special touches that you and the guests add will create lasting memories for the new mother that she will cherish for many years to come.

SAT Test Scores For College

August 12th, 2008 by creativewriting

When you are a freshman in high school, or even a sophomore, your thoughts may not be centered on getting your best SAT test scores in order to get into a college of your choice. However, you should keep in mind that the time frame for this standardized test comes up quicker than you think. That is one reason it is never too early to start on college test prep and other forms of SAT preparation.

It is a good idea to set up an account on Collegeboard.com, as there is a great deal of information on their site. They have a list of upcoming SAT test dates and once you have completed the SAT you can check out your SAT test score on line as well. They provide a date that your scores will be available, for example if you take the SAT on May 3, 2008 your online web scores will be available on May 22, 2008 and paper scores will be mailed out on June 2, 2008. They also have helpful tips for taking the SAT and all kinds of relevant information.

Anyone that has taken SAT’s tests knows that it may seem like a lifetime before getting your SATs results. While you have been able to view your information on line, there are some added features that should help you out a great deal. Now when you get your SAT test scores on line, it will give much more detailed information than on previous occasions or on your paper test results. It is a more detailed account of each of the sections, including types of questions, how difficult they were, how many you got correct and wrong, as well as ones you skipped. This can be a big help if you are planning on retaking the test.

When you register for the SAT, you choose which colleges you want your SAT test score to be sent to and they will be mailed approximately five weeks after the test. If you decide you want to send your scores to other colleges and scholarship programs, then this can be done for an additional fee. Keep in mind that all of your SATs results will be sent, not just your latest or highest score.

If for some reason you need to cancel your test and scores while you are at the SAT test center, then you need to get a request to cancel form from the test supervisor and fill it out completely before leaving. If you have already taken the test but need to cancel your SAT test scores, then you must notify them in writing within 2 days of taking the test. Keep in mind that if you do cancel them they cannot be reinstated, nor can they be reported to any colleges.

Three Common Brands of Email Server Software

July 31st, 2008 by creativewriting

Did you know that there is a distinct difference between a Linux email server, a Merak mail server and a Kerio mail server? There sure is and most people, unless they are in the computer industry, do not know the difference. Most people never need the information, but in reality it is better to know what is going on with your server then to be stuck in a situation where you need to know something but do not. Email server software is important if you like to receive and send email.

The Linux email server is a pretty popular choice for email server software for two big reasons. The first is that you do not have to register the software. The second is that you do not have to purchase the software. But of course there is a down side to using Linux. It can be complicated due to it’s programming language. It is definitely not software for beginners.

The Merak mail server is a server that is used widely in Local Area Networks, such as those used in businesses. It can be used with both the Microsoft and Linux operating systems. There are different levels of services that Merak offers and they vary, such as how many users can be utilizing the software program at one time. If you use this program, then go with version PP since it also includes the use of an email address list that everyone in the office can use to send emails.

Last on the list is Kerio mail server. This is the full service, one-stop shopping solution for email servers. It is used for corporate businesses and comes equipped with anti-spam, anti-virus and a host of other protective measures to keep your email server working in top shape. The bonus for using Kerio is that it works with Smartphones, as well as wireless, to communicate calendars and important emails while you are away from your desk.

There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing email server software. The first is how much it is going to be used. The second is the initial set up and the costs for doing the set up. You should also keep in mind the amount of time it will take to keep the server up and running. If it is going to be used a lot and by many people, then you may want to check into commercial grade servers.

Working to Avoid Scams

July 31st, 2008 by creativewriting

Have you ever watched the news or read a newspaper to hear about someone who has lost thousands of dollars to an online scheme? If you have, then you may have had a moment of sympathy for the person involved and then let the story completely leave your thoughts. The truth is, most of us believe that we could never be caught up in these types of situations and we believe we avoid scams because of our intelligence. Most people work hard for their money and losing it to someone who is perpetrating fraud would no doubt cause a huge setback in financial and personal matters. It is important to educate yourself on fraud protection.

While a large amount of scams are geared toward defrauding senior citizens and those who fall within the low-income category, online scammers develop internet scams that can dupe anyone. One of the most popular online scams involves investment fraud. The harsh fact is that those committing this type of fraud are able to do so more often because investors simply do not check out information as well as they should. It is absolutely a necessity to investigate the company that you are handing your money over to, before you invest. A sure fire way to avoid fraud and abuse is to have good quality information. Internet scammers are smart, sly and slick. They have all of their information in place in case you ask for references and other information. Be smarter than the scammers and always rely on your own research and investigations, and remember to report fraud to your local authorities.

One great way to avoid situations of this nature is to simply be leery of any information that you receive through various online situations. Online forums, message boards and even chat rooms can be virtual playgrounds for those looking to perpetrate online scams. In order to avoid scams of this nature, you will want to be very aware of what to look for and what to avoid. Using these online mediums, scammers will put out information that is meant to entice individuals into taking part in the opportunity that they are offering.

While taking the time to avoid scams can seem like a little work, isn’t actively working to avoid them worth your while? You work hard for your money and to lose it all to an online scam would not be a pleasant experience. Do your homework. Know what scams are out there and get as much information about them as possible. There are several online websites dedicated to helping people avoid phishing scams, card fraud, click fraud, mail fraud, identity theft or any other type of online fraud schemes.

Software Development Is a Burgeoning Field

July 23rd, 2008 by creativewriting

In this day and age of being incredibly reliant on computers to do so many things for us both in personal and business areas, the field of software development has become a good career choice for many. Possessing the skills to craft software programs can lead to work that is both interesting and rewarding. Such skills can be put to use to create a wide variety of programs, from engaging video games to high-end financial management software and graphic design software applications.

In fact, a great deal of application development comes about because someone with a passion for a certain area of interest or specialty sees that there is a need for computer software to improve that area. Then they combine their interest in a hobby with the skills to create software and that is how many unique and very valuable software programs are conceived.

Many people think that computer programmers are “nerds” who write code all day for software development companies. But the reality is that some of the most innovative applications were created to solve a problem that someone in the real-world was encountering.

A successful software programmer will not only possess all of the skills to be able to do the very technical parts of writing software, but they will also be able to effectively collaborate with the end user. If the programmer is open to feedback about the challenges that the people using the software are encountering, then there is the potential for creating the very best software tools and solutions possible.

People who are interested in the development of software and who also are interested in a particular specialty area are often the best suited to come up with innovative software packages that meet the very specific needs of a niche business or hobby area. Some one with a sincere and deep interest in a specialty will end up creating software solutions that can easily outshine a program that was written by a disinterested programmer who just happened to receive the assignment.

A good example of this can be seen in the area of graphic design. A skilled graphic designer who is also passionate about her specialty and who has experience in this area can quickly determine the challenges that are encountered on a daily basis in trying to finish a project. Taking that knowledge and insight and combining it with the skills to write the code for a designing program will no doubt result in a program that other such design professionals will quickly appreciate.

Because computers are becoming a more and more important part of everyday life, there is going to be an ever increasing demand for people who have software development skills. It is best for programmers to focus on writing programs for the two major operating systems, either for Microsoft Windows or for the Mac.

Free Resume Resources

July 23rd, 2008 by creativewriting

You may have decided that you want to create your own resume, but how do you get started? What elements make a resume great? A few resume resources will probably help when it comes to formatting, and will help you to present a resume to employers that you can be proud of. Here are some of the resources to use.

If you have searched for jobs on popular sites like Monster or Hot Jobs, you know that there are hundreds of jobs on the site each day in your area for you to choose from. In order to be eligible for these positions, a good resume is important. You can use these sites as resume resources by reading the career articles that are sometimes posted there, as well as the information provided for job seekers concerning writing a cover letter, having a great interview, and composing a winning resume. The tips and advice that you will find on this site is extremely helpful, and may even help you to land a job with one of the site’s feature employers.

You may also want to check out the websites for local newspapers, especially if you live in a major metropolitan area. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Boston Globe, and the Washington Post all have great websites and job banks, so you can get detailed descriptions of the jobs that you want, along with salary offerings. There is also information on local companies that you may be interested in, so that you can learn the history of a company before applying or sending over your resume. Resume resources are also available based on the specific career field you’re in when you visit these sites. For example, if you’re interested in radio or broadcasting, you can find information from a local news reporter about how to get into the business in that city–advice may include things like getting an internship at a radio or television station, or freelancing at the station for a while.

If you just need help with formatting your resume, or want to make sure that you include the right information in your resume, there are resume resources to help with this as well. You can get resume writing help, as well as take a look at some free resume and cover letter samples at www.resume-resource.com, and if you have Microsoft Word, you can search through the Resume Wizard feature to find templates that will reflect your style, and you can type in questions you may have about writing your resume and get answers online.

Don’t forget to use these resume resources to your advantage when you’re revamping your resume as well–adding new information to your resume takes skill as well, so refer to the job sites for pointers. Good luck!

Writing a Vision Statement

July 1st, 2008 by creativewriting

Writing the vision statement for a project can be the most enjoyable aspect of being a business analyst.  He or she may have to curb their enthusiasm during the writing process.  The business analyst can become lost in great expectations when writing the vision statement.

Writing the vision statement will answer the everyday questions of who, what , when, why, and where.  The who is easily defined as the stakeholders and the end user.  The stakeholder as the who will be listed as the person or company enabling the project to be completed.  It will include pertinent information about the company stand on the technology being developed.

In writing a vision statement the “what” is the project program.  The vision statement will deliver reasoning behind why the program is being developed.  It will include what the program will be able to accomplish, what uses the program will have and who the program will impact.  The vision statement may include statements of interest including updates available.  The key is to keep the vision statement truthful.

The Power Of Journal writing

July 1st, 2008 by creativewriting

In an effort to not only record, but to revisit, the experiences of my daily life, I have taken to journal writing. In all honesty, the habit began at quite a young age, when I was wont to record my prosaic experiences of life and love at the age of 8. Since then, I have barely missed a beat, though the journal writing has become more insular and reflective than merely the documentation of my daily routines.

Writing is not for everyone, and many people loathe the thought of doing any additional scrawling outside of their work. Yet I believe recording one’s thoughts through journal writing is a natural and honest way of approaching the world, giving one insight into the thoughts, actions, beliefs and ideas of the world and things around you. It also allows the opportunity to notice the environment you live in – including recording all the impressions from your five senses.

Creating Email Lists for Marketing Campaigns

June 20th, 2008 by creativewriting

If you plan to do some Internet marketing to promote your business endeavor, you should seriously consider email marketing as at least one tier of your Internet marketing campaign. Many business owners shy away from email marketing because they believe all email marketing campaigns are purely spam. However, this is not true and not partaking in this type of marketing can cause your business to lose out on a great deal of business. By not appealing to potential customers via email, your business may lose a great deal of business to competitors who are using email marketing campaigns to reach customers around the world. However, the first step of an email marketing campaign should be creating an email distribution list. This article will discuss some popular options for doing this and should help to the reader to learn more about what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to email marketing.

Once you have made the decision to start using email marketing to promote your business you are likely facing the dilemma of compiling an email distribution list. This is essentially a list of email addresses to which you will email your advertising and promotional materials. One common way to gain a list of email addresses is to purchase a list from distributors. However, this method is not very effective at all and we do not recommend it. The problem with purchasing an email list if you have no way of knowing whether or not the members of the list would have any interest at all in your products or services. This is very important because while you want to reach a large audience with your email marketing you also want this audience to be members of your overall target audience.

When you purchase an email list you may be sending your email messages to some users who might be interested but this is largely coincidental and is not likely to be well received because the message was not solicited.

Internet users are very quick to delete materials they believe to be spam without even opening or reading the emails. In fact some Internet service providers include spam filters which may automatically delete your emails if your messages are deemed to be spam. These filters run complex algorithms on the subject heading and content of the message to determine whether or not it is spam and are quite adept at weeding out spam. Therefore you run the risk of having your email marketing effort turn out to be a complete waste if the majority of recipients never even read or receive the message.

A far better way to create an email distribution list for your email marketing campaign is to ask current customers as well as interested potential customers to register with your website to receive additional information and periodic updates about your products and services as well as other information which might be of interest to them. This provides you with a database of email addresses from current customers as well as potential customers who have a genuine interest in your products and services and who are interested in learning more about these products and services.

Once you have a list of interested customers or potential customers you can send emails or create e-newsletter for distribution to the members of your email list. These documents should contain a wealth of valuable information as well as a soft sell pitch for your products and services. This information will be valued by the readers and may help to persuade them to try your products and services.

You might also want to include useful links to either your website as well as other websites which may be of interest to your readers. Your content should also contain a portion which urges the reader to take a specific action such as making a purchase or at least investigating a product further.

Internet Marketing with an E Newsletter

June 20th, 2008 by creativewriting

One very popular Internet marketing strategy is to publish and distribute an e-newsletter on a regular basis. E-newsletters are essentially emails which may contain content, graphics, links and subtle forms of advertising. In general e-newsletters should be informative in nature and useful to the recipient but should also serve some type of marketing purpose as well. This article will examine e-newsletters and explain how they can be used effectively as a marketing strategy.

The first item to consider when attempting using an e-newsletter as a marketing strategy is the distribution list for the e-newsletter. This is very important because you want to ensure you are distributing your e-newsletter to recipients who will be interested in your products and services and will likely view the e-newsletter as worthwhile instead of viewing it as spam. Using deceptive tactics to harvest email addresses and sending out your e-newsletters blindly to a large audience is not a good marketing strategy. This strategy is not worthwhile for a couple of reasons. Most importantly this type of strategy does not help you to reach your target audience. You may reach some members of your target audience by accident but are not likely to reach a large population of this intended audience.

Additionally, sending your e-newsletter unsolicited to a large audience with no interest in your products and services will likely result in your e-newsletter being viewed as spam. This can have more serious consequences than simply being a wasted effort. Specifically, recipients of your e-newsletter may block your email address or even report you to their Internet service provider as a spammer. This can have damaging consequences such as loss of business or even harsher penalties.

A better way to establish a distribution list for your e-newsletter is to set up a forum for interested potential customers to register to receive additional information from you. This could include registering with your website online and requesting to be added to your email distribution list or providing an email address and requesting additional information in some other manner. Sending your e-newsletter to recipients who have specifically requested more information is a good idea because these Internet users are already interested in your products and are likely to appreciate the e-newsletter instead of viewing it as spam.

The content of your e-newsletter should be considered next. This may include the actual copy contained within the e-newsletter as well as graphics, links and advertisements. Keeping direct advertising to a minimum is ideal but it is acceptable to use soft advertising techniques to promote your products or services. The copy in your e-newsletter should insightful information which will be useful to your readers. You may wish to include objective articles, product reviews or shorter articles containing useful tips. Links to your own website or to other websites which might be of use to your target audience can also be included. These links may come in the form of direct advertisements or the links may be embedded in the copy of the e-newsletter when appropriate.

If you plan to utilize an e-newsletter to promote your products or services, you should consider hiring an experienced writer to create the content for your website. This will help to ensure you are providing your readers with top quality content. Likewise if you intend to include graphics you should have a graphic designer assist you to ensure your e-newsletter looks professionally put together.
